Stress in the workplace leads to a variety of physical and emotional responses, including excessive sweating. Sweating is a natural response of the body to stress and usually occurs when you don't want it: you are giving an important presentation, you have a job interview or you finally have the attention of an important colleague.
Although it is completely normal to sweat during stressful situations, excessive sweating can be a real source of embarrassment and discomfort in the workplace. Especially if it is visible through a wet armpit spot in your clothing or through the odor of sweat.
There are several ways to reduce excessive sweating due to stress:
- Manage your stress level: Try to put things into perspective, practice mindfulness, do breathing exercises, take regular short breaks to relax.
- Think about your clothes: Clothing can play an important role in reducing excess sweat. Wear clothing that breathes and wicks away moisture, such as cotton. Wear anti-sweat underwear. T-shirts, tops or briefs with an armpit pad to ensure that you don't get wet armpits during an exciting moment.
- Use antiperspirants: Use deodorants and antiperspirants to reduce sweating. There are also extra strong antiperspirants that you can request from your doctor and use to reduce sweating.
- Drink plenty of water: Drink enough water to stay hydrated and regulate your body temperature. It may also help to avoid caffeine and alcohol, as these substances can make sweating worse.
- Consult a doctor: If excessive sweating is really a regular problem and is affecting your life, consider talking to a doctor. There are medical treatments available, such as medications and Botox injections, that can help reduce excessive sweating.
